Books That Inspire: MPSPS College Celebrates National Book Lovers Day with “Tribute to Legends Through Books”

The Library Knowledge Resource Centre of Mahendra Pratap Sharada Prasad Singh College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Bandra (E), Mumbai, celebrated National Book Lovers Day on 8 August 2026 with an innovative and inspiring programme titled “Tribute to Legends Through Books.”
The programme was designed to promote a culture of reading among students, with a special emphasis on biographies and autobiographies. The initiative aimed to encourage students to discover the lives of remarkable personalities and draw inspiration from their achievements, struggles, values and contributions.
Bringing Legends to Life
The centrepiece of the celebration was the engaging “Meet the Legend” Role Play Activity, through which students transformed themselves into renowned personalities and presented their journeys in the first person.
Students portrayed inspiring figures including Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Rani Lakshmibai, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Ratan Tata, Malala Yousafzai, Dr. Kiran Bedi, Sindhutai Sapkal, Dr. Anandibai Joshi, Sant Kabir, Sant Tukaram, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Savitribai Phule, among others.
Through their performances, students highlighted the personalities’ achievements, challenges, contributions and messages for society. The activity enabled students to move beyond conventional reading and experience the lives of these legends through research, interpretation, presentation and role play.
A Parade of Stories
Adding another creative dimension to the celebration was the “Legend Parade Walk with a Biography.” Students carried biographies of inspiring personalities and participated in the activity, creating greater awareness about the rich collection of biographical literature available in the Library Knowledge Resource Centre.
The initiative demonstrated how library resources can be transformed into engaging learning experiences and how reading can be integrated with creativity, communication and student participation.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The programme contributed to the development of several student competencies, including public speaking, communication, confidence, creativity, research skills and presentation skills. More importantly, students were encouraged to reflect upon the values, resilience and life lessons demonstrated by the personalities they portrayed.
The programme also aligned with the spirit of holistic and experiential learning, providing students with an opportunity to connect reading with real-life learning and personal development.
Building a Culture of Reading
The celebration reinforced the Library Knowledge Resource Centre’s role as an active learning hub within the institution. By placing biographies and autobiographies at the centre of the celebration, the programme encouraged students to look beyond textbooks and discover the transformative power of reading.
The event concluded with a powerful message for students:
“READ • LEARN • INSPIRE”
The celebration successfully created an atmosphere of reading, learning, creativity and inspiration, reminding students that every book can introduce them to a new perspective, every biography can teach a life lesson, and every great life can inspire a new beginning.
