Report on Inter-College Poetry Writing & Recitation Competition

- Introduction
On the occasion of National Librarians’ Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, the Library: Knowledge Resource Centre of Mahendra Pratap Sharada Prasad Singh College of Arts, Commerce & Science, in collaboration with Patuck Gala College of Commerce and Public Night College, organised an Inter-College Poetry Writing & Recitation Competition on 12 August 2026.
The initiative was conceived to extend the role of the library beyond being a repository of books and to position it as a dynamic centre for knowledge, creativity, communication, literary expression and intellectual engagement.
- Participation and Outreach
The competition received an enthusiastic response, with 26 students from three institutions participating:

Students showcased their literary abilities through original poetry writing and recitation in English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu, reflecting linguistic diversity and encouraging inclusive cultural expression.
- Objectives of the Event
The competition aimed to:
- Promote a culture of reading, writing and literary appreciation among students.
- Provide a platform for students to demonstrate creativity, imagination and original thinking.
- Develop communication, articulation, confidence and presentation skills.
- Encourage multilingual literary expression and appreciation of diverse languages and cultures.
- Strengthen inter-collegiate academic and cultural collaboration.
- Reinforce the library’s role as a Knowledge Resource Centre and hub for student development.

Shiv Khatri – Mahendra Pratap Sharada Prasad Singh College
Consolidated Prize:
Tohid Hasmi – Mahendra Pratap Sharada Prasad Singh College, awarded for the college’s overall outstanding performance in the competition.
- Judging and Event Management
The participants were evaluated by Asst. Prof. Archana Jaiswal and Asst. Teacher B. D. Mishra. The event was coordinated by the Library Committee with the active involvement and cooperation of the organising team.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Shweta Borhade, Librarian/Convenor, with the support of Asst. Prof. Harsheeta Gupta, Asst. Prof. Ghanshyam Jha and Asst. Prof. Vicky Rajput.
- Outcome and Impact
The competition successfully transformed the library into a vibrant platform for creative and experiential learning. It enabled students to move beyond conventional academic learning and engage in activities that fostered creativity, critical expression, confidence, communication and cultural appreciation.
The participation of three colleges also contributed to meaningful inter-collegiate interaction and academic-cultural networking. The multilingual nature of the event promoted inclusivity and provided students with an opportunity to celebrate linguistic and literary diversity.
The initiative is aligned with the broader objectives of NAAC, particularly in promoting student-centric learning, extension and outreach, holistic development, collaboration, creativity, communication skills and a vibrant institutional learning environment.
- Conclusion
The Inter-College Poetry Writing & Recitation Competition was a meaningful academic and cultural initiative that celebrated the legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan while reinforcing the contemporary role of the library as a catalyst for knowledge, creativity and holistic student development.
The enthusiastic participation of 26 students across three institutions, along with the achievements of the participating students, reflects the success and impact of the initiative.
